Archaeologists have been surprised and weird hypotheses have been sparked by the discovery of an alien-like skull in Argentina. In San Fernando, a municipality in the province of Catamarca, construction workers discovered the strange, elongated skull while excavating a water system. Experts and inquisitive locals quickly compared the malformed skull to fictional “antmen” from Greek mythology or even creatures from science fiction movies.

Workers discovered human remains, including the alien-like cranium, inside one of two funeral urns. A partial skeleton was kept in the second urn. The site was closed down right away. The remains are currently being examined by specialists from the National University of Catamarca in an effort to uncover their mysteries.

Is It Alien or Ancient Tradition?

Despite the skull’s alien appearance, scientists think there is a very human reason for it. According to one prominent notion, ancient cultures engaged in the unsettling but actual practice of artificial skull deformation.

A child’s head was purposefully reshaped during this procedure. Infants’ heads were securely bound with fabric, splints, or wooden boards while their bones were still pliable and fragile. Depending on how it was wrapped, the skull would eventually become wider, longer, or more rounded.

This wasn’t done at random. It was deeply ingrained in the culture. The shape of a skull was symbolic of prestige for many ancient societies, such as the South American Ciénaga and Aguada peoples. It demonstrated social status or tribal identification. Some folks said it helped them connect with the spiritual realm.

Skull-Shaping May Go Back Even Further

A youngster from such a society might have had the alien-like cranium discovered in Argentina. According to experts, the practice was widespread from the third to the twelfth centuries AD. However, according to some sources, it may have a far longer history—up to 300,000 years—and be connected to early human forebears such as the Mousterians of ancient Iraq.

According to Dr. Rick Schulting, an Oxford professor of prehistoric archaeology, the infant was unharmed by the cranial distortion. Generation after generation has made this cultural decision. Although cultural reshaping remains the most likely explanation, Dr. Heidi Dawson-Hobbis of the University of Winchester remarked that this specific alien-like skull might have belonged to a youngster and even wondered if a medical problem like hydrocephalus could be involved.

Many people are reminded of aliens from films like Mars Attacks by the unique design of the skull, which is curled at the rear and wider than usual! Greek mythology about the Myrmidons or “antmen” further supports the notion that this discovery is extraterrestrial.

However, experts advise being cautious. The alien-like cranium is interesting, but it’s part of a long-standing human heritage. One that is spiritual as well as artistic. Ancient, yet not alien.

Honoring Ancient Beliefs

Both the local police and the provincial anthropology department are involved, according to town culture director Clara Ríos. The remains’ precise chronological period and any other information they may provide are being ascertained.

The discovery, according to archaeologists, provides insight into ancient rites. The extent to which ancient humans associated physical form with religion is further demonstrated by practices such as trepanation, which involves piercing into skulls to relieve pressure or carry out spiritual rites.

Findings like the alien-like skull, according to the Group of Archaeological Studies (GEA), aid in our understanding of our forebears. The group stated that “we honor the memory of those who came before us when we respect these practices and understand their meaning.”

An ordinary construction project has evolved into a glimpse into the past. Regardless of its otherworldly appearance, the skull conveys a very human tale.
